Welcome to my website! I am an Assistant Professor in Economic History at Utrecht University.
My expertise lies in Asian economic history. My ongoing research explores a range of topics including climate and agriculture, financial markets, law and institutional change, economic cooperation, as well as health and living standards. Ultimately, my work seeks to explain the determinants of development in the developing world.

My book, Capital Shortage, co-won the Lindert-Williamson Prize (Economic History Association, 2025) and the Economic History Society Book Prize (2024).
