Over the last two decades, there has been a surge in scholarly work studying the economic history of colonized regions. Researchers have asked new questions, mined previously unexplored data, and used innovative methods to investigate lived experiences across European and Asian empires as well as the channels through which colonial institutions in the past affect livelihoods in the present. My expertise speaks directly to this body of work.
